World War 2 started September 1, 1939 when Germany assaulted Poland, and ended completely on August 15, 1945 when Hirohito, the Japanese emperor at the time, agreed to surrender, after we nuked 2 cities, Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and then threatened to drop a third on Tokyo.

VE day (Victory in Europe)was on May 8, 1945 when Germany finally surrendered after Hitler committed suicide.
