When I came across this link, I was searching for a 4 letter abbreviation for analysis. The only suggestions I found was "anal". Well, obviously, "anal" is a word unto itself... and not the politest for use in a professional document. Probably this is even the reason you went searching as well for a better abbreviation. At first try, I took the first letter from the four syllables and came up with "anls"... but that did not suggest the full word to me. So I used "anlz" which I think is a suitable abbreviation for analyze, the root word of analysis. So, in my opinion, the best abbreviation is "anls", but you might consider "anlz" if it fits your situation.
