∙ 9y agoIn the United States the sports of College Football and professional Baseball became popular at the beginning of the 20th century because many more people had leisure time and watching these two major sports were affordable. The growth in populations also was a contributing factor. Cities such as New York, Boston and Philadelphia for example could support baseball as well as college football. Many colleges were within a cities limits or close by. Baseball stadiums in the cities allowed for easy transportation to the baseball stadiums.
