Post-it Notes were developed by Spencer Silver, a 3M scientist, in the late 1960s while he was trying to create a strong adhesive. Instead, he accidentally created a low-tack, reusable adhesive that allowed paper to stick to surfaces without leaving residue. It wasn't until the late 1970s that his colleague Art Fry realized its potential for bookmarking his hymnal, leading to the commercial launch of Post-it Notes in 1980. The product quickly gained popularity for its convenience in note-taking and reminders.
