Ostensibly, it was to protect the soldier's body from artillery fragments which ricocheted off the helmet. The idea was that the frag would strike the crown of the helmet and be deflected downward, and then glance off the brim and away. Personally, I think that since it was an English design, it was meant to resemble the infantry helmets of the English Civil War, but I have no proof of this theory.
The German, French, and Portuguese steel helmets from WW1 also had brims for the purpose stated above.
they were made out of a sort of thick steel with little straps to keep it on their head while in combat.
The Cold War utterly dominated world politics from 1945 to 1990, hence, it was extremely influential.
The Viet Nam War was similar to World War 2 but did not involve the entire world stage and forces. That is the most recent war that was anything near to being like World War 2.
A World War (like World War I and World War II) has a lot of the world participating (in a more friendly word) in it. A Civil War (like the Vietnamese Civil War/Vietnam War or the USA Civil war) is when a large body fights against each other in a war. It's not like when your class can't decide whether to have pepperoni or cheese for your pizza party.
Well in the world war l there was few of people like 120 people in the second word war there was 999 of people.
hey
Many helmets worn by soldiers in World War I had pictures painted on them like lightning bolts, dice, and targets. The 9th infantry regiment's helmets had targets painted on the tops of them that looked like bulls' eyes.
They wore helmets long before world war 1.
All combatants in WWII were supplied with steel helmets. But only the US and USSR steel helmets survived into the Vietnam War era; both the US and USSR steel helmet "DESIGNS" served in the Vietnam War.
