There isn't a specified time and setting of the novel. It is mentioned however, that the events took place during a [fictional] nuclear war with the "Reds" (possible reference to the then ongoing battle between Democracy and Communism?), perhaps a reference to the then-ongoing Cold War that happened during the time the book was published. Sir Golding tried to keep the novel timeless in the sense of letting the reader feel as if it could have happened at any time, although personally I'd say it was set in the 50s-60s.

The island mentioned doesn't exist, of course, although apparently this tropical island was somewhere in the Pacific Ocean, near New Guinea.

Hope that helps.

What was the setting time in lord of the flies?

Just after the Atomic Bomb was dropped on Japan The period in which Lord of the Flies takes places is not mentioned in the book. As an ejectable aircraft 'passenger tube' and a nuclear war against 'The Reds' are both mentioned it would probably be safe to place the time frame as being set during some imagined future nuclear war against communism. ___ Lord of the Flies does not take place in a future imagined war - it took place during the early years of the Cold War in which the USA was against the USSR in the fight for nuclear weapons. ___ The future? What? No it took place in World War II Haha :)

Who published Lord of the Flies?

What is the time era for Lord of the Flies?

Most people commonly mistake the time era to be World War 2, this is ridiculous since the boys are British and no bomb was ever dropped on London as is said in the book. Lord Of The Flies is set during a fictional nuclear war, most likely between the Soviet Union, the USA and NATO (which Britain is part of). Refrences to "The Reds" twice in the book can confirm this. The reds being the name given to the soviets.
