What happened to the wardrobe in Narnia?

If you remember, it was in the Professor's house. If we read The Magician's Nephew we learn that Digory (the hero) brought back a special apple from Narnia to our world. He planted the seeds, and it grew into a apple tree here. This tree was blown down in a windstorm, and Digory had the wood made into a wardrobe. Digory became the Professor, and ..... you can see what happened.

In C. S. Lewis's The Magician's Nephew he explains that the old professor (who the Pevansies are living with during The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe) had travelled to Narnia as a child and brought back a silver apple from Aslan's garden to heal his mother. He planted the seeds from the apple in his back yard and used the wood from the tree that grew to make the wardrobe. The wood was infused with the magic of Narnia and, therefore, occasionally created a magic porthole to Narnia.
