In "The Giver," each of the twelves received their assigned job at the Ceremony. This ceremony marks their transition from childhood to adulthood and they are given their roles based on their abilities and interests.
In the book The Giver by: Lois Lowry, the main character Jonas sees the giver in the twelves' ceremony. Though he really met the Giver in the Annex room in the back of the house of the old
The Elders, as I believed they are called.
Jonas was apprehensive in The Giver at the beginning because in the upcoming Ceremony, he would find out his Assignment.
In the book "The Giver," the Assignment of Birth Mother is when a young female is selected to bear children for the community. Lily's parents approved of the assignment, with her mother expressing pride in Lily's selection for this important role in the society. They saw it as a significant and honorable contribution to the community.
False. In the book "The Giver" by Lois Lowry, Jonas's mother is not assigned the Study of Agriculture. She works as a prominent Nurturer.
At the Ceremony of Twelves in "The Giver", children are assigned their future roles in the community. The main character Jonas is assigned the rare position of Receiver of Memory, while his friend Asher is assigned as Assistant Director of Recreation.
In the book "The Giver" by Lois Lowry, Assignments are the roles or jobs that each member of the community is given at the Ceremony of Twelve, where they are assigned tasks based on their abilities and interests in order to contribute to the functioning of the society. Each assignment is carefully chosen by the Elders to match the individual's skills and personality.
Jonas lives in a dystopian society where assignments are assigned by the elders, and people have no say in their assigned roles. The community keeps assignments secret until the Ceremony of Twelves as a way to control and regulate the citizens' lives. This lack of information adds to the suspense and tension in the story.
The Council of Elders decides the future of everyone in the community, including their name, their career, who their spouse will be, and when they will be granted children.
In The Giver, volunteer hours were the jobs the Eights through Elevens did before they became Twelves. They would find areas they enjoyed volunteering at. The volunteer hours helped the Elder's decide where to assign the children. Quoting from page 28 from The Giver:"Once, long ago, it was whispered among the children, an Eleven had arrived at the Ceremony of Twelve only to hear a public announcement that he had not completed the required number of volunteer hours and would not, therefore, be given his Assignment. He had been permitted an additional month in which to complete the hours, and then given his Assignment privately, with no applause, no celebration: a disgrace that had clouded his entire future."This may just be a story to ensure the children complete enough hours or this may have actually happened.Note: The only known person to be skipped in a ceremony was Jonas. It was assumed to be a mistake, even though the Elder's never make mistakes. It turned out that Jonas was skipped because he was given the special task of being the Receiver.
Asher's assignment was Assistant Director of Recreations. Found in chapter 7 page 56. (in the first paragraph)
