I think Lowry chose Jonas and Gabriel because Jonas is Jonah (in the whale). If you know who Jonah is in The Bible he was swallowed by a whale. When he was RELEASED he left the whale like when people/babies were RELEASED from the community. He picked Gabriel from the Angel Gabriel.
No, in the book "The Giver" by Lois Lowry, Jonas is assigned his job at the Ceremony of Twelve rather than being given a choice of where to do volunteer work. The elders decide on their assignments based on the individuals' traits and abilities.
That is said on Page 98. Jonas says "What if they were allowed to choose their own mate? And chose wrong?"
Jonas chose not to go back to the Giver because he wanted to save Gabriel, the baby he had grown to care for. He believed the best chance for Gabriel's survival was for both of them to flee and search for a better future beyond the limits of the community.
Jonas learns that the previous Receiver of Memory, known as The Giver, failed in his mission to bring about change in the community. The Giver chose Jonas to be his successor and pass on the memories because he saw potential in him to bring about the desired change.
He asked them if they loved him. but they don't know what love is, so it is meaningless. they said that they enjoy him and take pride in his accomplishments.
In "The Giver," Jonas witnessed the phenomenon of color when the Giver showed him an apple and the color red. The Giver explained that before the community became "Sameness," people could see colors, but over time, they chose to eliminate them to create a more controlled society. Seeing the color red opened Jonas's eyes to the possibilities beyond what he had known.
I'm only 13 so correct me if I'm wrong , but I think the reason that Lois Lowry called the book " The Giver" is because the old man who has all of the memories gives them to Jonas, making him the giver. The giver is an important character who teaches Jonas many things about life and gives him a lot of wisdom other than what is passed on though memories. He also helps Jonas escape with Gabe. all in all, my theory is that the author chose this title because of the significance this character has in the main character's (Jonas's) life.
Jonas and Gabe hid at night while escaping from the community in "The Giver." They chose to leave under the cover of darkness to avoid detection and increase their chances of escaping successfully.
At the end of chapter 16 in "The Giver," Jonas decided to leave the community. He chose to escape in order to seek a better life and freedom, as he could no longer tolerate the oppressive and controlling environment in which he lived.
In the book the giver what was the first memory that the old man gives to jonas ? why do you think he chose this memory
Jonas from the Giver is needed because he is needed to keep all of the memories from the world before it was changed. He was chosen to be burdened by these memories that can be very painful (the memory of war, death, fire, etc) and some that are very pleasurable (the beach, eating ice cream, etc. The Elders of the community chose him to keep the memories.
I do not understand your question. Please explain what people chose Saint Gabriel for.
