Ralph extends the blame for Simon's death to all the boys because he understands that they all played a role in Simon's tragic demise. By sharing this responsibility, Ralph emphasizes the importance of unity and cooperation among the group, as well as the collective guilt they bear for allowing such a tragedy to occur. It also highlights the breakdown of moral order and the descent into savagery that has consumed the group.

Ralph is the only boy who truly recognises the significance of Simon's death. Piggy is ready to lay part of the blame on Simon himself and the dance, the Twins are in total self denial and Jack dismisses the entire episode as a 'trick' played by the beast. Ralph alone gives the deed its true name, murder, and Ralph alone seems to realises the depths to which they have sunk and the ferocity of their attack. Ralph too realises that having gone this far Jack and his tribe are now capable of almost anything.
Early in the novel Ralph, Jack and Simon climb the mountain to ascertain if they are actually on an island. Later in the book Ralph, Jack and Roger climb the mountain in search of the beast.
