As far as I know with Freshwater Fish and food is that there are are many things a fish will eat.

Fish Flakes: When it comes to fish flakes lots of fish will them such as Goldfish, Tetras, Small Chicleds, Gouramis, Mollies, Platties, Guppies, and sometimes Betta fish will eat them, They are very high in nutrition, I would recomend feeding a community tank of about 20 gallons at least 2 servings a day.

Fish Pellets: I have had a lot of luck with the pellets and fish, sometimes Goldfish and and the live bearing fish wont eat them, but most others will. I dont recomend this for bigger Chicleds, but great for smaller fish. Bettas will seek this as there primary source of food.

Fish Granules: This is for bigger fish such as Oscars or Koi to eat, this is mostly a base for the Oscar Chicleds diet, but it is necessary for them to eat this daily.

Feeder Fish: Chicleds also need this in there diet, about 2 small feeder goldfish, or 4 small feeder guppies or minows per chicled along with its base food. Crabs will also eat this as its only or primary source of food.

Algea Wafers: Bottom feeders such as Plecostomus, Catfish, and Snails will eat this, Crabs will also eat this as well. You only need to put 1-4 per week for them to eat.

Vegetables: Bigger plecostomus need this as the primary source of food in there diet, Cucumber, Letuce, Carrots, and Broccoli are the primary choices to feed them. I also recomend this for the smaller bottom feeders, but with less of it.
