Yes, some animals are harmed during testing for makeup. But it only depends on the product being used.

"Avene Skin Care Products are not tested on animals. They stopped doing that many years ago. Instead, the skin care products are tested on healthy people that are willing to participate in the testing for pay."
Yes, they do. this is a link to caring consumer's Do Test On Animals list and loreal is the second companie down. http://search.caringconsumer.com/search_list_icons.aspx?Donottest=-1&Product=0&Dotest=8
no, not usually, but some countries require additional testing which may include animals, but only under the supervision of the department of health in that country, (not the U.S or Europe)
No it is not, in fact none of the Chanel products are tested on animals.
I cannot sit and list all the companies who may use inhumane methods of testing their makeup. The more and more people take a stance against animal cruelty, the more companies are willing to change the testing. The best way to make sure the makeup you are using was not tested on animals is to look on the tag for a phrase that would say "NOT TESTED ON ANIMALS" or "NO ANIMALS WERE HARMED IN THE MAKING OF THIS MAKEUP." Some famous brands of makeup that are known for not testing on animals include: LIME CRIME Burt's Bees Arbonne
yes
I do not support animal testing. Especially if the animals are being tested on for human products like makeup and shampoo and stuff. if its for the humans then theyshould get humans to agree to safe testing practices. If it is for animals then they should use safe and human practices on some animals. But if the product is made for humans then it should not be tested on animals because it could have a totally different effect on humans then it does animals from- an all around animal loving vegetarian

Heathcote and Ivory's website state:Q. DO HEATHCOTE AND IVORY TEST ON ANIMALS?Absolutely not. None of the Heathcote & Ivory, Sanderson or Cath Kidston products are tested on animals, only on us! We make it a rule not to allow any animal derivatives in our products, the only exceptions are derivatives where the animal has not been harmed in any way by the process e.g. Beeswax and Lanolin
