My guinea pig was pregnant toI recently bought my guinea pig from pets mart. I had my guinea pig for 1 week and then one night i went in to say good night and there were three baby's in there with her. Unfortunately for me they were dead. It was unexpected and a total and complete shock. She was only 3 months old!!! LUCKILY though my guinea pig is happy and health to this day. I just tried to push the past out of my mind. If you think your guinea pig is pregnant take her to a vet. And handle her with care, and if possible don't handle her as much if she is pregnant. ALSO don't get your hopes up if she is young and pregnant the chances the babies will live to be healthy and the mom is very not likely but miracles happen hope things turn out for the best, a.m.l

they may have been pregnant or housed with a male before you bought it.

No, not at one week, but they can become pregnant at three weeks old. Mine had that problem she is 12 weeks and is going to give birth any day now ^

they say a guinea pig can get pregnant at 4 weeks old....we also have a guinie pig who we got already pregnant....when a guinia pig has babys u need to split the boys from the girls at 4 weeks as brothers can get there sister or mother pregnant at this age ...they r then pregnant for about 9 / 10 weeks .... and babys will be born with fur and eyes open

Can a guinea pig be pregnant even when they're young?

They can be pregnant but it is not fair for a baby guinea pig to have to hold up to 8 guinea pigs. There is a very high chance they will die. I had a guinea pig that was pregnant when I got her(she was 14 weeks when she had babies) and she had 2 babies and tey all survived.

Do the guinea pigs need to be in their own cage when pregnant?

You need to keep any males out of the same cage that a pregnant female is in. You can keep other females with the pregnant one. If you think you may have a problem with the pregnant one, you can cage her by herself.

How often can guinea pigs become pregnant?

Guinea pigs can become pregnant again IMMEDIATELY after giving birth. They can also get pregnant at any age, but after passing a certain age, they are very likely to die. Even a young, healthy pig at prime breeding age has a 25% chance of dying from a pregnancy. Please do not breed your guinea pigs. If you already have a pregnant female, be sure she doesn't get pregnant again afterwards by removing the father immediately and removing male babies 21 days after the birth.

Is it a bad idea to put a young guinea pig in with an old guinea pig if one is a girl and one is a boy?

Unless one of the guinea pigs is spayed/nuetered they will mate. This can be especially dangerous to the health of the female guinea pig because if she gets pregnant after the age of 9 months the only way she will be able to give birth is by C-section simply because if she has not had a litter before the age of 9 months her pelvic bones will fuse together thus making natural-birth impossible. Also, even if the guinea pigs are "fixed", the older one may bully the younger one because of its small size.

How long does it take for baby female guinea pigs to fall pregnant?

Female guinea pigs can become pregnant as young as 4 weeks old, but it is not safe or healthy for them to do so. It is recommended to wait until they are at least 4-6 months old before allowing them to breed. Once pregnant, guinea pigs typically have a gestation period of around 59-72 days.

Why young boys tell a lie?

because theyre insensitive idiots :D

Can your guinea pig get pregnant at two months with out a male?

No female mammal, Guinea Pigs included, can get pregnant without a male. However, female Guinea pigs sometimes show unexpected pregnancy because of two simple factors: a) their sex can be difficult to determine when they are young, so it is not unusual that a young male is mistakenly homed with females (or vice versa), and b) they are fertile from a very young age. It is not unusual that the litter is separated into females and males too late.

When a sow giunea pig is pregnant do you have take the boar guinea pig away?

Yes,because the boar may cause stress to the weaker pregnant Guinea Pig.Also,as soon as she give birth to young ones, she may get again pregnant due to this boar and it will cause serious problems in the health of the female Guinea Pig.Another problem is that the male Guinea Pig may go up on the or accidentally kick the babies and it may lead to death among baby Guinea Pigs.

Can a 4 year old boy get a girl pregnant?

#1, no, theyre too young to develop sperm. #2, why do you need to know?

Can guinea pigs eat timothy hay pellets instead of the grass hay?

As it is edible for them and helps wear down their teeth. People feed timothy hay to guinea pigs that aren't pregnant or young as if you give a normal guinea pig alfalfa hay (which is for pregnant guinea pigs and young guinea pigs), it will be too high in calcium (I think) which is bad for them.

Do guinea pigseat there on young?

no, guinea pigs dont eat their young.

What are guinea pig pellets?

Guinea pig pellets are small pieces of food that guinea pigs eat. Pellets can be timothy based or alfalfa based. For an adult guinea pig a timothy based pellet is best because alfalfa includes extra protein and calcium that young (under age one) and pregnant guinea pigs need, but adult guinea pigs don't. Pellets should be available to guinea pigs at all times as they are the main part of a guinea pig's diet. Source Guinea pig owner

Is my guinea pig to young to be pregnant she is 3 months help me i'm not sure how to care for an underaged requirement pregnant guinea pig?

Your guinea pig is much too young. Guinea pigs become fertile after about 4 weeks, but it's safest for the mother (and her babies) not to be breed before at least 6 months. The best thing you can do is get her checked in with the vet, and ensure she's alone in the cage with fresh bedding and plenty of food and water. Good luck with her.

Can a female guinea pig have babies without a male I found a dead deformed baby in their cage they are both females?

No, guinea pigs need a male around in order to mate. What probably happened is your guinea pig was pregnant when you bought it. This is quite common since guinea pigs are hard to sex when they are young but can however, reproduce at a very young age.

How young can a guinea pig be to mate I have just brought a 12 week old and it seems to have a fat tummy and the place I got it from said it could be because its pregnant?

my guinea pig came pregnant from the pet store as well. she was only three months old at the time. She gave birth to a healthy, beautiful baby boy. she could just be chubby, but if she's pregnant you may occasionally notice movement from inside the belly. (the baby moving and kicking) Make sure you do lots of research about how to take care of a pregnant guinea pig, online or at the library. helped me a lot. And also, If you guinea pig is pregnant, you should use Alfalfa Hay (a legume hay) because if has more protein. this information is also posted on http://www.guinealynx.info/hay.html#select
