Pet sitting can be fun for a responsible kid who's at least 9-10yrs old, but the parents need to remember that kids can't always do all the work themselves and will probably need the parents help at some point. If the family has no pet experience I wouldn't recommend pet sitting unless you know for sure that the pet your watching is well mannered and trained (unless we're talking fish).
