People can be Allerigic to anything. Just depends on what a particular individuals body becomes sensitive to. Pigs have hair, not fur, so most people are fine. However, like most animals pigs do have dander, and that is likely the culprit. As a precaution be sure to eliminate other possibilities like mange mites or other parasites that could be causing an itch.

Depending on the person..... Most people don't get allergies from guinea pigs but some people get Asthma from the guinea pig fur. Some people can be allergic to the seed or bedding but it is very uncommon. I have had guinea pigs for over 5 years and I have never had a problem. If you are worried about it try getting a short haired guinea pig instead of a longer hair variety.

If you are allergic to guinea pigs my best advice is a) don't buy a guinea pig or b) do not go near them if your family has one. don't hold or touch it.
