Why are your parakeets staying in their breeding box?

The female may be coming into season, and is preparing for laying eggs. Even if there is no (and never was) any male present, the female can lay eggs. There won't be anything inside, but the female may feed and prepare it like there is. If she does lay eggs, let her fidde around with them. Once she becomes uninterested, remove the eggs and throw them out (make sure there are no real young in the egg before you throw it out! You can probably tell by holding the egg under a light.) If there WAS a male present, the female may be pregnant and will be preparing for eggs. If it's true, the male is there to feed the female while the female is preparing the nest for her young. If the female goes in labor, stay quiet. The male will most likely be out of the nest and the female will be in the nest for days or hours on end. If it is a male; it's a different story, and I don't know the answer to that.

When are baby alligators born?

After the male alligator mates with the female, the female lays a clutch of from 20 to 40 eggs, which will hatch after about 60 to 65 days. The mother alligator will help the young to find the water so they can begin to feed, and will remain in the area for up to a year while they grow to maturity.
