What is the name of the childrens show with Hammy the Hamster?

The most popular children's show featuring Hammy the hamster was ""Tales of the Riverbank" where Hammy, GP (the Guinea Pig) and Roderick (the rat) had many adventures with their friends in the countryside. They were live animals filmed with a recorded voice describing the action and providing the animals voices. It was originally produced in Canada for CBC and had limited syndication to other countries.

What happens if you eat slate pencils?

Slate pencils are made from a type of sedimentary rock known as Shale, which is composed of mud that is a mixture of clay minerals (kaolinite, montmorillonite and illite) and small quantities of other minerals especially quartz and calcite. The ratio of clay to the other minerals gives the shale its colour. Shale from which slate pencils are made, are light gray in colour. Slate pencils in some regions are made from soft Soapstone, which is a metamorphic rock, composed dominantly of talc. Your eating them shows that you have a condition called PICA. It usually occurs in a person who has a mineral deficiency. Since the main ingredient in slate pencils is either clay or talc, they tend to reduce ones appetite, and more seriously reduce the absorption of iron in your body and make a person drastically anemic. I have personally experienced this and so can tell with a certain degree of certainity. I used to eat slate pencils at the rate of a box per day(20 pieces), and finally after a while I was diagnosed with Iron deficiency anemia. My haemoglobin levels dropped to half the normal range. I would advise anyone who has been eating slate pencils or having the urge to eat them, to visit a doctor as soon as possible and get ur CBC test done to determine your haemoglobin levels before it is too late. Correct whatever mineral deficiency you have and once that is corrected the craving to eat slate pencils will automatically vanish and until then please exert ur will power and stop eating those slate pencils. Gud luck and stay strong.

Your English pointer of 8 years has over the last 2 weeks developed dark skin growths almost like ticks around her head and mouth area if removed they come again but in a different place Any ideas?

See a vet as soon as possible. Any rapidly emerging health event needs to be observed, as the results have the potential to be dire, and the speed of emergence is an indicator of how long this may take. Your description does not contain nearly enough information to make a guess at a diagnosis, and it's fully possible you lack the equipment to get that information yourself. In summary, this situation is moving fast, is effecting a dog who is old enough to see a decline in the immune system, suggests no obvious syndrome, and does not provide you or I enough info to make an educated guess. Therefore, let me refer to the words of my all-too-terse friend who first answered this: Get the dog to a vet quickly. You can and shuold describe the problem over the phone, but I suspect the vet will need to examine the lesions and quite likely run a CBC. Go now, friend. Please SEE Your VET ASAP! Anything that grows fast always has the chance of being serious. Please follow up in discussion so we could send good thoughts to your pointer.

Typhus?

DefinitionTyphus is a bacterial disease spread by lice or fleas.Alternative NamesMurine typhus; Epidemic typhus; Endemic typhus; Brill-Zinsser disease; Jail feverCauses, incidence, and risk factorsTyphus is caused by one of two types of bacteria: Rickettsia typhi or Rickettsia prowazekii. The form of typus depends on which type of bacteria causes the infection.Rickettsia typhi causes murine or endemic typhus. Endemic typhus is uncommon in the United States. It is usually seen in areas where hygiene is poor and the temperature is cold. Endemic typhus is sometimes called "jail fever." Lice and fleas of flying squirrels spread the bacteria.Murine typhus occurs in the southeastern and southern United States, often during the summer and fall. It is rarely deadly. Risk factors for murine typhus include:Exposure to rat fleas or rat fecesExposure to other animals (such as cats, opossums, raccoons, skunks, and rats)Rickettsia prowazekii causes epidemic typhus and Brill-Zinsser disease. Brill-Zinsser disease is a mild form of epidemic typhus. It occurs when the disease re-activates in a person who was previously infected. It is more common in the elderly.SymptomsSymptoms of murine typhus may include:Abdominal painBackacheDull red rash that begins on the middle of the body and spreadsExtremely high fever (105 - 106 degrees Fahrenheit), which may last up to 2 weeksHacking, dry coughHeadacheJoint pain (arthralgia)NauseaVomitingSymptoms of endemic typhus may include:ChillsCoughDeliriumHigh fever (104 degrees Fahrenheit)Joint pain (arthralgia)Lights that appear very bright; light may hurt the eyesLow blood pressureRash that begins on the chest and spreads to the rest of the body (except the palms of the hands and soles of the feet)Severe headacheSevere muscle pain (myalgia)StuporThe early rash is a light rose color and fades when you press on it. Later, the rash becomes dull and red and does not fade. People with severe typhus may also develop small areas of bleeding into the skin (petechiae).Signs and testsA complete blood count (CBC) may show anemia and low platelets. Other blood tests for typhus may show:High level of typhus antibodiesLow level of albuminLow sodiumlevelMild kidney failureMildly high liver enzymesTreatmentTreatment includes antibiotics such as:DoxycyclineTetracyclineChloramphenicol (less common)Tetracycline taken by mouth can permanently stain teeth that are still forming. It is usually not prescribed for children until after all of their permanent teeth have grown in.Patients with epidemic typhus may need intravenous fluids and oxygen.Expectations (prognosis)Without treatment, death may occur in 10 - 60% of patients with epidemic typhus. Patients over age 60 have the highest risk of death. Patients who receive treatment quickly should completely recover.Less than 2% of untreated patients with murine typhus may die. Prompt antibiotic treatment will cure nearly all patients.ComplicationsRenal insufficiencyPneumoniaCentral nervous system damageCalling your health care providerCall your health care provider if you develop symptoms of typhus. This serious disorder can require emergency care.PreventionAvoid areas where you might encounter rat fleas or lice. Good sanitation and public health measures reduce the rat population.Measures to get rid of lice when an infection has been found include:BathingBoiling clothes or avoiding infested clothing for at least 5 days (lice will die without feeding on blood)Using insecticides (10% DDT, 1% malathion, or 1% permethrin)ReferencesBechah Y, Capo C, Mege JL, Raoult D.
