I don't know about the King Ranch but I do know that the oil companies in Duval County Texas imported them back in the 30's to keep the rattlesnake population down since most of their oilfield workers lived in tent cities. I grew up there and saw some of the ones that had been brought in which had a USA stamp on their belly.
