you could, but it could be messy. messy as in destruction of tiny little guinea pig bodies. blood everywhere and screams of terror and excruciating pain. but, yes, you can have the male in there.
You should remove the male when you realize the female is pregnant. Females have a two pronged uterus meaning they can conceive while being pregnant and 4-6 hours after giving birth. Females can also get pregnant by their sons in just three weeks.
No! The male guinea pig should be in separate cage IF the babies are still young or a week of age because the male might rape the female baby guinea pig...and it might cause for the early death of the of the baby guinea pig...
She is a Gilt, once she has given birth to her first litter, she will be called a sow.
Not unless it is the father, take out the father 2 weeks before birth as the mother can become pregnant 2 hours after birth, this is fatal to the baby's and mother, the father may kill the baby's if left in same cage after birth. thank you hope i helped
If it's your pets then yes but if its wildlife, it depends. They might come from the same pack.
um well no. it should be ok. i have a 6month old girl and a 4year old boy guinea pig and we are going to mate them. yes it's ok. make sure the female is under 10mnths old if youre mating her for the first time as the first litter has to be before then or there will be big difficultys at birth where her birth canel has developed and the babies will get stuck which will result in there death and maybe the mothers. girls fight together so prob not good idea!!
Unless one of the guinea pigs is spayed/nuetered they will mate. This can be especially dangerous to the health of the female guinea pig because if she gets pregnant after the age of 9 months the only way she will be able to give birth is by C-section simply because if she has not had a litter before the age of 9 months her pelvic bones will fuse together thus making natural-birth impossible. Also, even if the guinea pigs are "fixed", the older one may bully the younger one because of its small size.
The first litter a female guinea pig gives birth to usually numbers in at around 2. After the first litter, the average number of piglets per litter climbs to about 4. The minimum number being one and the maximum being 8.
Guinea pig pregnancies last 59 - 72 days. Litter size can be from 1 to 10 approximately. The female (sow) is fertile immediately after giving birth to the babies, and if the male is present (boar), she could very possibly get pregnant again. NOTE: This is NOT recommended, as it could put a large strain on the female (feeding the current litter at the same time as pregnant with the new one is not considered a delightful situation for the sow). (Info from the Guinea Pig Manual)
Depending on the guinea pig, to give birth to a litter can take up to 10minutes per piglette! After the gestation period of 50-60 days the birth could last another 2-3 days, depending on the size of the new guinea pigs and the strength of the sow.
Yes! And this is a major cause of death for many Guinea pigs. They may get pregnant straight after the birth and this will cause too much stress for her. That is why males are separated from females when they are pregnant. So,you should separate male Guinea pig when you are sure that your female Guinea pig is pregnant.
Right after birth.
yes if it had a lot of sex
A female pig is called a gilt from birth through when she has a litter of piglets, then she is called a sow.
a guinea pig can fall pregnant at 5 weeks but it is not safe until the pig is 5 to 6months and males can not father a litter until 8 months if you breed a female after 8 mounts though the pelvic bones will become ridged and your female would not be able to give birth
She is a Gilt, once she has given birth to her first litter, she will be called a sow.
I'm not sure about males. For female guinea pigs, they should've given birth to the litter before they are one. Never breed your guinea pigs younger then about 5 months though, since it is cruel to breed your baby and make it have babies. Hope this is useful... Like most mammals and other animals, the female guinea pig gives birth. Although, similar to a human, a male is needed to impregnate the female. Female guinea pigs can have litters of pups that very from one to eight in number.
This is normal, the average litter size is 2-6. There is nothing wrong.
