However, turtles cannot hear very well as they are missing an eardrum.
I have just discovered this while playing with security cam. Focused it on turtles in pond. (see what they really do when im not watching.) Ends up Doing what I would figure... Bask in SUN!!! about every 20-30 min. do lap around pond then back to there ROCK. When they would come back up on to land they would actually SNIFF like a dog does. Never noticed it before but they will have there heads up, way up, and I noticed there noses SNIFFING. They seem to get a lot from sniffing cuz they would do it for minutes at a time. never really thought about them smelling.
By the way, cant figure out how they KNOW when Im watching them on CAM. As soon as view cam. They would get abit jumpy or edgie and even look straight in to cam. sometimes jump off sometimes just look a bit annoyed and keep an eye on me.
