Not anymore; most horse shoes now are steel which doesn't rust and holds up longer than iron. Some show horses are shod with aluminum shoes, which don't hold up as long but are much lighter than steel shoes.

Blacksmiths "Shoe" horse's. They cut and trim the horse's hoof and then (depending on the owners preferance) the add a metal shoe. They are now called farriers. A farrier combines some blacksmith's skills (fabricating, adapting, and adjusting metal shoes) with some veterinarian's skills (knowledge of the anatomy and physiology of the lower limb) to care for horses' feet.
