The Black Russian Terrier does shed, but minimally. To minimize the shedding, keep them brushed regularly, or dogs with longer coats will leave big clumps of hair around the house.

What does a black Russian terrier look like?

The Black Russian Terrier, also called the BRT, was breeded using the reproductive crossing technique in the "Red Star Kennel in the former Soviet Union following World War II, originally as a guard dog. Also called the Russian Bear Schnauzer, Tchiorny Terrier, Chornyi, and Black Terrier, more than 17 various canine breeds went into the creation of this confident, calm and unpretentious animal. The key initial breed was the Giant Schnauzer, but other breeds, such as Caucasian Ovcharka, Rottweiler, Airedale Terrier, Newfoundland, Great Dane, and the now extinct Moscow Water Dog were also used. Only recently has it been popular outside of Russia, and only recently has it been recognized officially by the American Kennel Club. The BRT has also been called "the only good thing that Stalin ever did" :)
