I have found a good site for you. Go to www.purplemartin.org. They give you tips and dimensions. The hole should be a semicircular hole with the flat side on the bottom. The best way for you to get the dimensions is to see the web site. They have pictures.
Purple martin birds are generally small to medium size birds. The opening hole need be only 2 to 2.5 inches in size. It is effective for a small seasonal nest.
Last spring we had a Eastern Grey Squirrel raise a litter of three in a Red-Winged Blackbird birdhouse. So, Yes, if the entrance hole and the dimensions are big enough a squirrel may make it their future house.

When a bird is trying to get into a person's house, it likely means that the bird is searching for a place to roost. To help the bird, and keep it away from the house, put some straw inside a birdhouse and hang it from a tree. The bird will make it's home inside the birdhouse.
Do you mean a Wild Bird is some where in your house? What I suggest is to call Animal Services, (which is usually state and county runi) in your area and they may come to the house and try to rescue the bird. If they can't help you, ask them who you should call and make sure you get a number from them. More then likely they'll give you a number for the wild life protection agency in your area.

What size hole do you need for a birdhouse? The size hole doesn't need to be too large. Birds are very good at squeezing into those holes. You could just make one the size of your fingers when they make a hole/circle.

You can add house to it to have it become a bird house or add bird to human to make it an angel. Other than that there really isn't much else that I know of.

Bird+house=birdhouse! Really it's simple.
Never known of a bluebird crawling, it would be difficult..To exclude house sparrows, make the entrance hole around one and a quarter inches across..Also, place the nest box no higher than five feet from the ground, sparrows won't nest so low.
