You need to touch the area around the shoulder, and down the leg, to see if there is any sign of pain in the muscles. Then carefully examine the foot, with attention to the spaces between the toes, looking for splinters or stickers. Also check the upper (dew) claw carefully for a possible tear. They often get caught in fences or loose threads on the furniture.

Sometimes it might just be the beginning stages of Arthritis, or the leg has a temporary loss of circulation (falls to sleep, as they say). If the problem persists for longer than a couple of weeks, take the dog to a vet.
