You can calculate an orb weavers size from its web, but that's about all. Given a strict diet, the length of time a particular species goes between molting can estimate age, but this is hardly worth the controlled conditions required. Some ages can be 'estimated' by color/pattern changes after a molt, depending on species.

Typically, a Spiders age is not scaled in time, but rather the number of molts. Each of these periods is called its 'instar',and after a final molt, considered adult.(full grown)

Why are spiders webs called cobwebs?

The Old English for spider was atorcoppe (poison-head). The "pp" altered to "b" in the 16th Century and "cob" became a stand alone word for spider, still used in some English dialects into the 1930s.Ergo cobweb = spiderweb.

What is the biggest spider in Arkansas?

the biggest spider ever found was in Alabama is was a ten year old Goliath spider. but it was dead. The largest spider ever found was a living Huntsman spider. It was found and filmed at the mouth of a cave in Guam, in south east Asia, during a thunderstorm. Its body isn't as substantial as a Goliath spider but its leg span was 13.8 in. The size of a medium snow crab. By the way Goliath spiders are only found in south America.

Is a cob web a spider?

Both Cobweb and Spider web refer to the silken threads spun by a spider. The meanings are identical. However the word "cobweb" can also be used to mean a single thread spun by a spider, whereas spider web tends to be used to describe a multi strand pattern. On saying this, the actual definition defines both "cobweb" and "spider web" as being the same, with little or no difference between them. A cobweb also refers to a web that is no longer in use by the spider that made it for what ever reason the spider has moved on.
