Many cultures explain the way dogs came to be man's best friend.
One religion says that man one day went looking for fruit to eat, as man hadn't yet learned to hunt. The man couldn't find any fruit because of the big floods, so went looking for items to hunt the animals of the forest with. The man couldn't catch the birds, the monkeys and the wild cats very well, so hunted fish. He caught so many. The God got angry because all the fish were nearly gone. God decided to turn some fish into dogs to help Man kill all the animals to keep them even. While the man returned to catch fish, the dog had caught a monkey at his feet and gave it to the man.
The scientific way dogs were the first domestic animal because they were great at hunting and had great noses to smell with. The cave men found dogs and saw they caught well, so tried to tame dogs to hunt for the cave men. Since the dogs where very wild back then, it took a while. A least one cave man kept a dog as a pet and handed down the idea from generation to generation, and look what's happened now!
The dog. Experts disagree as to exactly when each was domesticated, but none would argue about the order. Dogs were domesticated long ago, and cats rather recently. Estimates for the domestication of the dog, based on various genetic studies of living dogs and wolves, range anywhere from 15,000 to 135,000 years ago. Estimates for the domestication of the cat are more like 10,000 years ago. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestic_dog and http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Domestic_cat
Dog and Cat owners disagree more than the experts. Many say that the cat has not been domesticated. The Dog is probabally not a domesticat animal; its relationship to Man is so inter tangled with Man that the mechanical/industrial age is dependant on the man-dog relationship. Work, that is, moving and pulling, and hunting, and distance activities, all important to Man, probabally could not have been accomplished without the Dog.
Expressions:" Dogs have Masters; Cats have staff." Not altogether an inaccurate discussion of the Dogs and the Cats interaction with Man and Man's apprasial of the diffiernece between the animals. Examples of Dog-Man relationships: almost ever state in the United States has statutory law or case-law concerning Dogs and their relationship to Man; very little legislation exists concerning cats, who are considred pets or more or less usless luxuries of man. ('Pets', as significant and entitled to be given legislative protection is still relatively undeveloped; it is true that preserved cats are found in Egyptan tombs; I dont recall a preserved dog; there is the famous dog of pompii.) 'Dogs,' as valualbe assistants, helpmates, and adjuncts to active human business are recoginized in just about every state jurisdiction in the United States of America. (Side point the law of the dog is much more complicated than mere automobile accidents and wrongfull death.)
Legend and history are repleat with stories of dogs and Man: Galart, hound of Henery I? , who died rather than let europian wolves get near Henry's child; Shercher, Walker of George Washington, countless dogs who saved entire families from fire, etc, etc.... Amoung men, it's almost imposible to find a persona without a dog of life story; it is nearly equally almost imposible to find someone who says, " Love me, love my cat."
Finaly, it appears to me that cats are probabally only quasi-domesticated; dog are so much a part of the life of Man, that they are no more domisticated than one's extended family: the interaction is such that they are all a part of the whole.
Because dogs are NOT insects or bacteria. Humans are classified as themselves, thus leaving only Animal left for a dog. A dog is a mammal because it has fur and is born live. It is also warm-blooded and has a back bone.
most commonly quoted answer is approximately 15,000 years ago, found buried with a child in Asia, the skeleton showed a reduced jaw bone, which suggested domestication. Alan
No one knows when it became the first domestic animal, but it was the dog.

Yes. Dogs are a domestic animal so they primarily exist in 'captivity'.
A domestic dog is one that is bred and raised in captivity to live in the world of humans. Pets are domestic dogs, as are police dogs and others trained to work for humans. Police dogs are owned by police departments and are specially trained to assist in police work. Some work in apprehending suspects while others work in detecting things like drugs or bombs. Wild dogs are those who descend from dogs who have been abandoned or lost. They live as scavengers on the outskirts of human civilization. Some subsist on garbage and others kill pets or live stock to survive. --------------------------- Quote: "A police dog is simply a specially trained domestic dog. Wild dogs come in two varieties: wolves and feral domestic dogs (which are domestic dogs that have developed packs outside of human society and act wild). Currently, scientists do not consider wolves and dogs to be different species but rather different subspecies." The person who wrote this is not a scientist certainly not one who can make a general staement like this. The difference is many years of selective breeding for specific abilities. Dogs with certain personalities, certain bodies, smelling capabilites etc. have been chosen to be used as police dogs. Wild dogs have lived because of the "survival of the fittest". Wild dogs and police dogs have different attributes but the way they have developed is entirely different.
No it snot harmful to dogs my dog ate rabbit poop more than 3 months ago and he still feels fine.
They are
Back in 1982. At least that's what my vet told me.
No. If they're wolves, they're wolves. There's no way they'd become dogs.

The domestic dogs became a wild pack on the island in "Island of the Blue Dolphins" because they were left behind by the humans who abandoned the island. Over time, the dogs had to rely on their natural hunting instincts to survive and form a pack for protection and hunting.
Domestic dogs did not exactly descend from the wolf. Domestic dogs are 100% wolf but were slowly domesticated by man over the years.
Relatively nothing. Prarie dogs are rodents
if it is a domestic pet dog then no
Actually, domestic dogs are classified further than species. Domestic dogs, Canis lupus familiaris, are a subspecies of the Gray Wolf, Canis lupus.
