Currently there is only one species of tiger, with 8 tiger subspecies known in recent history. However, there has been debate regarding the genetic distinctiveness of the Sumatran tiger, with species status being considered.
Recent studies have shown that the Indochinese tiger may actually be 2 subspecies of tiger (Malayan and Indochinese), which would make 9 tiger subspecies currently alive.
3 subspecies - the Balinese, Javan, and Caspian - became extinct in the 20th Century.
There are 5, possibly 6, sub-tiger species still alive today:
There are 6 sub-tiger species still alive today:

· Bali Tiger (panthera Tigris ssp. balica) - Island of Bali
o Males weigh 90 to 100 kgs
o Females weight 65 to 80 kgs

· Caspian Tiger also known as Persian Tiger, Turanian Tiger (panther Tigris virgata) - Iran, Iraq, Afghanistan, Turkey, Mongolia, Kazakhstan, Caucasus, Tajikistann, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan
The Caspian tiger was very closely related to the Siberian tiger. In fact, dna evidence suggests the two diverged in the last few thousand years.
This has to do mostly with predictive statistics. For example, if scientists know that 1 acre of land can sustain let's say 3 tigers, they predict based on the number of acres times estimated number of tigers to arrive at the total number of tigers in that area. However, today, biologists can also use tracking devices. They sedate tigers and attach a tracking collar which lets biologists study the migration and hunting patterns. Scientists can study mothers with cubs to understand the social structure of tigers and their reproductive patterns. In addition to counts in the wild, based on predictive statistics, they also add the numbers of tigers kept in captivity such as zoos worldwide.
There are about 7 tigers. But tigers are being forced to crossbread somtimes and samples are being taken to find any new tigers.

Tigers are native to Asia.
A tiger census published late in March 2011 estimated that there are 1,706 tigers roaming free in India. Although this figure is very low, it is good news, as the census indicates there are 295 more than the last time Indian tigers were counted, in 2006.According to reports, there were 40,000 tigers in India a century ago. The country is home to 40% of the world's tigers, with 23 tiger reserves in 17 states. The 2006 count found a steep fall in India's tiger population to 1,411 from 3,642 animals in a federal census in 2002. Poaching and urbanisation are blamed for the decline in tiger numbers in the country.According to a report in 2011, there are an estimated 1,700 tigers in India.I think about 50 tigers live in India. Just guessing:)

Yes, the Sumatran tigers are the smallest tigers in the world.
Cats have the most kind in the world. All cats including lions, tigers, and house pets. ALSO DOGS! Which is a major one! Plankton, because they are beyond count.
Both, people have been hunting tigers for hundreds of years, and tigers have been killing people for hundreds of years. I think that if you were to put humans on one side and tigers on the other you would find that there are less tigers because people hunt them because of fear.WELL tigers are actually hunter and prey
