I have kept sunfish and know of other people who keep sunfish as pets. I would not use anything smaller than a 28 gal. The larger the better especially if you plan on keeping more than one, even for little ones because they grow quite large. In my tank I I have several rocks piled into 2 little caves where they like to hide/sleep. They eat smaller sinking pellets (it takes them a couple of days to get used to it and you can feed them small minnows or worms or insects that you find as a treat). If you plan on giving them any friends, (Algae eaters etc.) you should make sure they are too big for the fish to eat because they will try to eat anything that fits in their mouth.
Ignore the prude that said you should not try to domesticate animals etc. etc... They obviously do not realize that almost all salt water fish come from the wild as do many of the harder to breed fresh water species.
This page has a lot of information on caring for and breeding sunfish.

There is a variety of sunfish that are called pumpkinseed.from Wikipedia:"The pumpkinseed sunfish (Lepomis gibbosus) is a freshwater fish of the sunfish family (Centrarchidae) of order Perciformes. It is also referred to as pond perch, common sunfish, punkys, and sunny."
No.
Sunfish are known to be mostly active during the day and rest or sleep at night. They typically float near the water's surface, appearing motionless and conserving energy while sleeping. However, some sunfish species may also drift deeper into the water column to rest.
They are not hard to take care of.:)
Depends on the specific kind of sunfish, but in the wild the average lifespan of most sunfish species is around 5-7 years. In captivity they will live longer, however, so they could be seen to live 10+ years in that situation.
There are a lot of parts commonly used on the Sunfish Sailboat. Assuming the question should read, how many parts are on a sunfish, the answer is approximately 15-20, depending on what you classify as a part. Take a look at the Sunfish Parts list in the related links section for an idea on some of the common parts needed to sail a Sunfish.
Fish as a rule aren't big at parental concern. usually the eggs are laid, then fertilized, then ignored. A rare few will guard the eggs until they hatch, but that's about it.
