well male dogs are just about always in heat! Female does get antsy right before they go into heat and then their vagina swells up and she will start bleeding. They also have to go potty a lot more too and never seem to settle down in one spot for too long. This normally happens twice a year once in the spring and once in the fall, although some dogs tend to only go into heat once a year.
