How do you tell the difference between a male and female barramundi?

It depends what breed it is. If it is a livebearer the female would have an anal fin and the male would have a gonopodium. In the case of egg layers,scatterersand depositors the females might be plumper or the males may be a different colour/more colourfull.

A male discus is typically larger than a female discus. Male discus fish tend to have less intense color but have more pattern while the female tends to be more colorful but with lesser pattern. Males tend to have pointed dorsal and anal fins or sometimes have extended growth on the end rear of the dorsal fin. Females tend to have round fins.

It is very difficult to tell the difference. The only way I know of requires the fish to be caught and its vent examined. If it appears to have one hole it will be a male. Females have two holes.

All young Barramundi are the same sex (male). In some fish the males will become female as they mature but many of the young males will fertilise at least one spawining before changing into females.

I used to have a male and female of that fish. the male is usually bigger and the color of the male is darker.
