You cannot tell a gender of a mallard duck when they are ducklings. When they enter their "teenage" years, they start getting markings. Male's head's start getting dark and they get colorful feathers on their tail. Females don't change much they get a blue stripe on their wings. See Related links to see what a male mallard looks like.

It can be challenging to determine the sex of a 3-week-old mallard duck. Typically, males have a louder quack and may exhibit different behaviors such as head bobbing or tail wagging. However, the most reliable way to determine sex is by waiting until they mature and display more distinct physical characteristics, such as colored plumage for males.

What is the record for the longest lived duck?

i dont know the record for longest living duck, but in the wild they only live for about 2 years due to predators and hunters. however, i have 3 pet ducks, and our oldest is 5 years old. she had ducklings last year, even though she was old enough to be their great grandmother, so i guess ducks have the potential to live for a long time.
