Hens eat chicken feed. You can buy it in large bags at any feed shop. That is usually the majority of their diet.

They can have plenty of other treats though. They go crazy over fruit and vegetable scraps. Corn, tops from tomatoes, carrot peels, and banana peels are good examples.

They also like soft proteins. A little leftover scrambled eggs or cottage cheese always goes over quite well. They will eat Spiders and insects as well. A couple of free range chickens kept around the house will put a big dent in the bug population.
