Best Answer

an elephant can survive in the dessert only if there are a water source and food for the elephants.

Elephants, or more specifically desert dwelling Elephants like the Gourma Elephant, survive by following routes from one water hole to the next or "Highways". They cover vast distances between these water holes over rough terrain, though they usually travel by night as this cuts down on dehydration.

Elephants survive in the wild by staying in groups and traveling close to water sources. Although they eat a lot, they are constantly on the move to find new food.
