Generally two weeks but can be up to a month. I have a little "surprise" from my gelding who had only been gelded a few days before being turned out with the mares. We now have JJ's One Hit Wonder :)

What is a geldning?

A male horse that has had its testicles removed is called a gelding. A gelding can't breed, but is generally considered easier to work with and more likely to get along with other horses.

Should you buy a mare or a gelding for a first time horse owner?

For a first-time horse owner, a mare or a gelding can both be suitable options. Mares can be more unpredictable due to hormonal changes, especially during their heat cycles, while geldings are often perceived as more steady and predictable in behavior. It ultimately depends on individual preferences, experience level, and what qualities you are looking for in a horse. It is recommended to work with a knowledgeable trainer or advisor to help choose the right horse for your needs.

What was the name of Adam Cartwright's horse He had a Chestnut gelding in the TV show called Bonanza and I can't remember the name of his horse. It was a beautiful animal and I was hoping for help ok?

Adam actually had two sorrel geldings. The first was Beauty, but he was too highstrung to work in front of the cameras. You will notice him in the early episodes always tossing his head. He was replaced with Sport.

What kind of horse should you get if you never had a horse but your not a beginer?

It's not about what kind of horse you get, but how experienced the horse is. If you're not a beginner, but you've never had a horse before, your best chances of keeping one for a long enough time would be to get a well trained horse that's laid back, but will willingly work for you.

What is a palomino's weigh?

A palamino is just the color scheme on a horse, it depends what kind of horse it is, The weight of a horse depends on how many hands high, the horse stands, the age, and the amount of work expierence the horse has to determine the muscle mass, vs. the fat intake. for instance a 3 year old gelding horse that stands 14.5 hands high probably weighs any where in between 700-1000 pounds depending on the previously stated factors.

Where did the idiom 'to flog a dead horse' originate?

This is a horse term. Flogging is beating with a whip. It does no good to beat a horse that is dead, because it will never get back up and work for you.

What horse would be best for your first time?

Breed it dosent realy matter. IF you do want a certain breed i would prefer the Quarter horse or a work horse because they are already natruly docile(calm). but when it comes to chosing male or female i would do a gelding( a nutered/casturaded male) because they wont have the stallion instinct if they are gelded before they are 6mnths old. Mares are naturaly highstrung.
