At least long enough until they become used to their surroundings. If you have any animals that would eat chickens, mainly dogs, make sure the dogs become used to them before you free range them, or else you know what.

What is a place where chicks are kept is called?

The place where chickens are kept is called a coop. Chickens need shelter and a place to roost/ sleep that is out of the weather and safe from predators. Chicken quickly learn where this safe home is and will gather as a flock just after dusk, free range chickens will spend the night in the coop and emerge at dawn looking for food.

How far are organic chickens allowed to roam?

Most free range chickens will not venture too far from the coop. Well within the sound of the roosters call, which is usually less that 1/2 mile.

How many chickens can fit in a 8'x12' chicken coop with a 12' foot roof peek?

Each full grown chicken should have app. 3-5 sq. ft. of room. So in a 5x8 ft. coop there is 40 sq. feet. That means you can have 8-14 chickens. Also, bantams are half. They need about 2-3.5 sq ft. per bird. You could have 11-20 bantams (banties). These figures apply to circumstances in which the chickens also have access to an outdoor scratch yard or are able to free range for part or all of the day. If, however, the hens and roosters are confined to the chicken coop all day and night, they will need more like 10 square feet per full sized bird. Thus a 5 by 8 foot coop would only hold 4 chickens that are cooped up full time.

If chickens go out on a field do they come back home?

They should. Free range chickens can wander quite far from home searching for food. The occasional hen will wander too far but a good rooster will call her back to the flock. As long as they are not attacked by a predator they will usually come back to the coop well before nightfall. It is best to allow new additions to the flock a chance to figure out that the coop is where they roost at night before allowing them to free range. Offering them a little food just at dusk will reinforce their desire to come home when the sun goes down and not seek shelter elsewhere.

How do you get a free chicken out of your chicken coop in farmville?

click on the coop and the option "look inside". Your chicken inventory will be inside and you can remove it from there. If you chose "remove" you can place it any where on your farm. One coop holds 20 chickens. The best chickens are brown, black or gold. At this point, Farmville only allows each farmer to have 1 coop I believe.

How many chicken in a 8' x 8?

You can house 16 chickens in an 8' x 8' chicken coop if the chickens are also allowed to free range or have access to an outdoor scratch yard. In this case, they only need about four square feet apiece as the coop itself is used primarily for nesting, roosting at night, and shelter in bad weather. If the coop is the chickens' only environment and they do not have outdoor access, they will need about 10 square feet each, meaning that a hen house of this size could comfortably house six chickens.

If chickens fly how do you keep them?

Chickens can fly, but they can't fly long distances. For the most part they stay in an outdoor run. We also free range our chickens and they know to come into the coop at night where they sleep. Chickens are a creature of habit, so you just have to let them know where home is, and they'll stick around.

Size coop for 25 chickens?

The rule of thumb is to allow 3-5 square feet per bird; the lower end being for coops in which there is little to no access to the outdoors and the larger end for instances where the chickens are allowed to free range for part or most of the day. For two chickens, your small chicken coop could be as little as two feet long by three feet wide -- or six square feet.

Where do chickens live on farms?

Typically in a coop attached to a chicken run. However, some are totally free range and live amongst whatever the warden of the flock has laying about the barnyard.

How do you make your chickens eat less?

There is no way to force your chickens to "eat less". You can, however, supplement them with free ranging (where they freely range and eat grass/bugs/etc) You can also put them on a healthy feeding routine.
