Akitas have a dense double coat. This means that their coat consists of an outer layer of hairs called "guard hairs" and the softer more plush undercoat. The undercoat is largely shed twice a year, in preparation for the cold winter months and the warm summer months. The sooner the Akita has all of the loose undercoat brushed or combed out the sooner it will stop shedding.

Hamsters shed their fur every few months, usually in the spring and fall. This shedding process helps them get rid of old fur and prepare for changes in temperature. It's normal for hamsters to shed and grow new fur throughout their lives.
There are cats with no hair called the Sphinx Cat, they shed the least. All cats do shed but those with longer hair 'seem' to shed more because of the longer hairs floating about and on everything. Brushing often does help.
Yes, all dogs shed. How much the breed typically sheds, how long the hair is, how often they shed (some do seasonally) and whether they have an undercoat or not will make the hair more or less visible and more or less of a problem. For some lists of dogs that shed less, see the related questions below.
