I'm a vet student at the moment. It takes 5 years to study at university. You also have to do 10 weeks of varying work experience to get into uni, it has to be spread across the species and also at vet clinics. When I applied (2009) you needed to get AAB at A-level and one of these had to be Biology and chemistry is also recommended. I'd also suggest doing Maths or Psycology because these both help with some of the subjects. In the UK there are 7 vet schools; Liverpool, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Bristol, London, Glasgow and Nottingham. You will have to have an interview to get into uni, you should probably do a little prep for this incase they ask you about recent veterinary news; you'd be best getting a vet magazine if you can such as 'Vet Record' or 'In Practice' but you could also just keep up to date with anything reported on the general news. It looks like there's a lot to do but it's definitely worth it! Hope this helps! :)
