In the year 2000, it was estimated that there were about 100,000 lions in Africa. However, this number has significantly declined due to factors such as habitat loss, human-wildlife conflict, and poaching. Current estimates suggest that the population has decreased by nearly 50% over the past two decades. Conservation efforts are ongoing to protect these iconic animals and their habitats.
