Every other day. ......... Most recommendations are to clean (scoop) a cat's litter box daily. You wouldn't want to use an un-flushed toilet tomorrow, would you?

Changing of the entire litter in the box will be listed on the package by the manufacturer. Some litters are more absorbent, like the non-clumping kind, and will need to be changed entirely more frequently. With clumping litter, you should be able to just add some fresh litter every few days for about a month before cleaning out the entire box.
