Different species have different life spans. Most schooling tropicals live a few years. Bettas live for about 18 months, larger fish can live to there twenties. some koi have made it to 50
invasive species
A betta normally only lives 2-3 years, so it would be around 70 years old in "betta years".
It depends on the species of fish, as different species have different lifespans and aging rates. Generally, a fish's age is not typically measured in "fish years" as it is for dogs and cats. Fish age is often assessed by examining growth rings on their scales or otoliths in their inner ears.

The ceolacanth lived about 410 million years ago. That's pretty old. Living specimens have been caught in recent times, but, as individuals it seems that they 'only' live for about 80 to 100 years. Even older fish fossils have been found, but it has been difficult to identify these as being truly fish. The oldest fish in captivity is reckoned to be about 80 years old. Also, other fish have been caught in the wild which appear to be about 100 years old. See Related Links below these three ads.
