First off when it's first born you should let it rest. It is safe to pet it when it opens it's eyes, but only a little bit. Then when it's eyes are comepletely open you may pet it more but you still can't hold it. Then after 3 weeks from it's birth you can hold your guinea pig. Have fun and make sure you take care of your guinea pig. They are small and playful animals, and love to be cuddled. Thankyou.
If your Guinea is used to you then you can handle the babies straight away for a few moments. Try not to keep them away from mum for long though as she may get upset and baby may start to get cold.

∙ 13y agoGuinea pigs should be four weeks before weaning and I like to give them a week to be away from their mothers before they immediately get sold. You could sell at four weeks if you like but I feel that it is easier on both parties to wait until five.
