At about one month old you will see that the cockerels are already more aggressive and starting to play fight. The pullets will be timid and hide but the young cockerel will investigate strange objects place in the brooder box.
Mother animals can identify their own babies using a combination of sensory cues such as scent, appearance, and sound. This recognition typically occurs shortly after birth or hatching through imprinting, a process where the baby's unique characteristics are memorized by the mother. This bond helps the mother provide care, protection, and nourishment to her offspring.
Chicks are hatched with down feathers. These are smaller and lack the barbules and hooklets of an adult chicken feather. These feathers are not zipped together and do not look neat and tidy. A chicks first covering is soft and fluffy. This provides most of the insulation needed to keep the chick warm. These first feathers last only for a week or so and are soon replaced by what will eventually be full adult feathering.

Baby chicks are programed by nature to peck for food and water, search out warmth, and stay in contact with their family units as soon as they are dry and walking around. Beyond this the baby chick needs to learn, and actually they are very quick learners. So as far as newborn baby birds are concerned they are one of the brightest.

It's nearly guaranteed that they will kill the ducks, especially baby ones. They are different animals completely. My hen hatched her own chick and the others killed it two days later... If they will kill their own, they will kill ducks, too.
