No, flounder fish are not poisonous. They are safe to eat and are actually a popular choice in seafood dishes. Just make sure to cook them properly to avoid any foodborne illnesses.
The biggest fish in the Rio Grande is typically the Alligator Gar. These large freshwater fish can reach lengths of over 8 feet and weigh several hundred pounds. They are known for their long, narrow body and distinct alligator-like appearance.
Alligator hide, hands, feet, and teeth can be preserved and sold for profit, as can the animal's meat. However, it is illegal to take any part of a wild alligator.
A Gar fish is a fresh water fish that can actually grow quite big. I found this picture on the internet as an example. I take no credit for this picture, but it will give you an idea of how big and fiersome they can be. http://www.flickr.com/photos/17773534@N03/2383212340/ If you ever see one in person and get a look at their mouth, your heart will drop to your toes, they have a long bill shaped mouth that have hundreds of thin razor sharp teeth that look like needles. Don't get bit by one cause your flesh will be ripped off.

Yes. I saw one the morning of 5-22-08 in Lake Norman, which is near Charlotte, NC. The Garr was about 2 feet in length and was in shallow water. Garr Fish have an unmistakable long thin snout with teeth and have fins that look like fans. The rest of the fish is long and slender.
