I assume your talking about under gravel filters in aquariums. There really is no right or wrong answer to this question. It's all about personal opinion. It really depends on what type of set up you have. In my opinion it is completely fine to have a under gravel filter, it is also unnecessary. If you have an adequate hang on back filter and do proper water changes you will not need this extra filtration. Some think it is nice to have anyway, they say it helps get water flow under the gravel and builds better biological bacteria helping break down the toxins that accumulate. So the ultimate answer is... It's up to you ;) I'm sure this answer is pretty much no help but I have no background information to be specific to your tank, if you want to start a discussion I'm more than happy to answer specific questions. Or find a knowledgeable person at your local aquarium shop to help you out.

Gravel is not essential for goldfish, but it can provide a natural environment and anchor plants in the aquarium. However, make sure the gravel is large enough to prevent the goldfish from accidentally ingesting it, which can cause health problems. Regular gravel cleaning is also necessary to maintain water quality.
Animals such as burrowing insects, spiders, worms, snails, and certain types of ground-dwelling rodents may live in gravel habitats. These animals often seek shelter and protection under the small rocks and in the crevices found in gravel areas.
On the side with the power head, you should connect the tube to draw water into the filter. On the other side, the tube should be connected to allow the water to flow out of the filter and back into the aquarium. This setup creates a circulation loop that helps filter the water effectively.
Yes, you can use a shop vac to pick up gravel. Make sure to use a shop vac with a large enough hose and strong suction power to effectively pick up the gravel without causing any damage to the vacuum. It's also a good idea to use a filter or attachment specifically designed for picking up heavier debris like gravel.
An under gravel aquarium filter is one where the filter is located beneath the gravel. The filter is responsible for keeping the tank oxygenated and looks better out of sight.

A sieve or a filter can be used to separate gravel and water by pouring the mixture through the sieve or filter. The gravel will stay on top while the water passes through.
To separate sand, gravel, and water, you can use a filtration method. Pour the mixture through a filter such as a sieve or cloth to separate the sand and gravel from the water. The water will pass through while the sand and gravel remain on the filter.
