A high-quality cat food with a high meat content will usually reduce the smell, as good quality foods are usually free of grain, corn, wheat gluten and other carbohydrate fillers. Finding a wet food like this is far easier than finding dry, but there are a few grain free dry foods out there.
Cats are strict carnivores and they get all their nutrition and energy sources from meat and little else. They cannot process the high amounts of corn and other filler (the stomach works far harder than usual to try and digest it, which can cause excess gas or loose or soft stools) so it usually passes right through, and this is what causes the strong smell when the cat visits the litter tray.

∙ 15y agoIf a cat is fed dry food their feces generally does not smell as much as if you give them wet food along with the dry food. You can feed your cat both and Walmart sells clumping cat litter quite cheap. The clumping cat litter will cover up the smell. If you want to buy an even cheaper litter that does not clump then mix baking soda with the cat litter to take away odors. Be sure your cat has fresh water every day as this helps too.
