An American Bulldog is one breed in itself, thought to have been created by breeding English bulldogs and bull terriers.

The Boxer was from Germany, with records going back to the 1880s. Before that their history is more spotty.

The ancestors of Boxers were the German Bullenbeisser (a Mastiff type dog also called the Brabant Bullenbeisser), and the English Bulldog. The Brabant Bullenbeisser is accepted as the immediate ancestor of the Boxer.

The Brabanter was crossed with the English Bulldog to startthe line that would become the Boxer. In 1894, three Germans by the name of Roberth, Konig, and Hopner decided to work with the breed and enter it in a dog show. This was done in Munich in 1895, and the next year they founded the first Boxer Club.

What dog breeds are considered to be bully dogs?

Bully breed dogs are dogs that are classified as pit bill type breeds and were originally bred to fight bulls for sport. Not all dogs that have the term "bull" in their breed qualify. Bully breeds include the American pit bull terrier, American Staffordshire terrier, Staffordshire terrier, English bull terrier, miniature bull terrier, and the American bulldog. (The English bulldog is not considered a bully breed.) Bully breeds are all part of the pit bull family, but each breed has unique personalities and temperaments. Bully breeds have gotten a bad reputation because of their aggressive beginnings, but they are great dogs to the right owner.

What two breeds of dog make a Boxer?

boxer's are a breed of there own Actually, boxers (like many modern breeds) did originate by mixing other dog breeds. "The Boxer is part of the Molosser dog group, developed in Germany in the late 19th century from the now extinct Bullenbeisser, a dog of Mastiff descent, and Bulldogs brought in from Great Britain." (from Wikipedia) FYI - this is a perfect example of how you should think twice before believing an answer that is written with so many grammatical errors ;)

Is an American boxer the same thing as an English boxer?

Yes, although they are bred to a slightly different breed standard, they are the same breed (unless you are thinking of the American Bulldog which is different). The only real noticeable difference between English and American-born Boxers is that in America most Boxers are cropped and docked for show - which is illegal in England.

What is the history of the breed boxer?

Looking at the Boxer you would probably say that it was simply the product of crossbreeding between Mastiffs and Bulldogs, but you would be wrong. The Boxer owes its genes to many different breeds from all over the World and its line can be traced back to before the sixteenth century. It has been said that the Boxer is a descendant of the fighting Tibetan Mastiffs of the time, but Boxers actually show very little resemblance to them. Dogs that looked more like the Boxer of today started to appear in European Art in the 16th and 17th centuries. During this time the Boxer can be linked to several Spanish breeds, most notably the Perro de Presa and the Spanish Alano. The Boxer may just share a common ancestor with these breeds, or perhaps these Spanish breeds are the Boxers ancestors. One breed that can definitely be said to be an ancestor of the Boxer is the French Dogue de Bordeaux, or French Mastiff. However, credit for refining, maintaining and improving the appearance of the Boxer can certainly be given to the Germans. The Boxer owes much of its genes to the small Bullenbeisser, which was a prized German hunting breed that was bred carefully and with thought. You can tell by looking at the Boxer's undershot jaw that it most certainly has some English Bulldog in it, but you may not be able to tell that there is also some Terrier. Boxer clubs were first formed in Germany in 1895, but American Kennel Club registration for Boxers was not available until 1904, when white was the most common colour. Today white is being bred out of Boxers and is not even recognized by the Kennel Club as an accepted colour; due to the many health implications this colour brings with it. The Boxer really kicked off in popularity after it began winning championships in 1915. Therefore, although the Boxer can be traced back to Spanish, French and English breeds, the Germans were the ones responsible for its popularity and for refining it into the breed we know today.
