You should be aiming for between 8 and 12 hours. about the same time as the sun is up. this helps with the natural environment of the tank, the plants will grow nicely, there wont be loads of algae everywhere, and your fish will behave more naturally.
this can obviously be adjusted to suit when you will be looking at the tank, after all your paying for it :P. I have mine on around 11am-9pm because this is when im most likely to be home!
too light can lead to an algae bloom and make your tank go green, if this happens don't leave your tank on for so long. it might also help to keep natural sun light off of the tank.
tom :)
Fish need both light and dark cycles just like people do. The light should be on for 12 hours and off for 12 hours each day. The easiest way to do this is to place the aquarium light on a timer.
It is instinct for fish to hide from danger. It is normal for some fish to hide from the light.
the cause might be a sick fish, a dirty tank, or over feeding.
yeah. it can
Yes! You should never use chemicals to clean your tank, especially while there are fish in it.
So you can make sure the fish has a suitable temperature
a light might be nice but its not expected for the fish to stay alive.
The energy for the plants in a fish tank is supplied by Light.
All tropical fish need light, as they tend to live near the surface around coral reefs. It is no different if the fish is kept in a tropical fish tank. Too much light duration will result in excessive algae growth in a fish tank. Therefore, light duration should be regulated to keep algae growth to a minimum.
Put it this way, a friend of mine uses her daylight bulb with her lamp, and puts it over the fish tank. I wouldn't use a 100w or 60w really, but all fish are different with their habitats. So i recommend seeking advice from a fish shop near you.

Turn the light off or get a smarter fish.
I cleanmine once every week if the light goes out every 4 days
that depends what you want to do with the tank if you want a planted tank then dont go with a LED light inless the plants are very hardy and dont require a lot of light. if its just for fish go with the LED light. i have a LED light on my fish tank and my fish are doing great. i dont have any plants but i might get some hardy, low light ones. LED also saves energy
A big fish tank is as long as its been built. 'Big' is a subjective term. Ask yourself, how long is a big fish tank, to me? That is where your answer lies. For me, a 'big' fish tank is anything over at or over 4 feet long.
so you don't waste electiricty... and so that you don't heat up the water with the light
if there is a black out and you do have a fish tank you should be fine an less you have a chinease fish or any fish that is in the red mark for fish
The mass of a fish tank should be measured in kilograms.
