The coati is primarily a ground dwelling cousin of the raccoon found from the deserts of the southwestern United States south through much of South America. They are omnivores that spend most of their time foraging for insects, worms, grubs, etc. in the soil. Their diet is very similar to that of the raccoon but they are not as good at climbing trees as is their cousin.
