Energy expenditure is reduced! Not having to move around to find food etc saves energy. However it can make other activitys such as reproduction very costly. Most sedentary animals are broadcast fertilisers, this means the produce lots of sex cells and release them into the water. They must produce alot so some find sex cells of the opposite sex! Also, being stuck to a rock makes it difficult to escape predators! Far more animals are not sedentary than are, so this appears to be the best strategy, but sedentay animals are very evolutionary stable, so they must do well for themselves too!

Semi-sedentary refers to a lifestyle or culture that involves a mix of sedentary (settled or stationary) and nomadic (moving or wandering) characteristics. Semi-sedentary societies may engage in some form of agriculture or settled living while also practicing aspects of a nomadic lifestyle, such as seasonal migrations.
Body symmetry is an adaptation to the habit of the animal. For example:Radial symmetry is advantageous in sessile or sedentary and more or less passively drifting animals (Phyla Cnideria and Ctenophora), because it enables them to develop appendages all around the mouth for capturing prey or gathering food from all sides. Their sensory and nervous coordination is also concentrated around mouth.Majority of animal phyla exhibit Bilateral symmetry. This type of symmetry is said to have evolved in those ancestral forms which started moving on ocean floor. A crawling animal is expected to encounter food with the advancing end. So mouth developed at the anterior end. The sensory organs and coordinating brain also developed near mouth at the front end, enabling the animals to sense or recognize edible or non-edible organisms.

Sedentary societies are characterized by permanent settlements where people engage in agriculture and animal husbandry, leading to surplus food production. Non-sedentary societies, such as hunter-gatherer or nomadic groups, rely on moving from place to place in search of resources. Sedentary societies tend to have more complex social structures, specialized labor, and larger populations compared to non-sedentary societies.
