I've been asking myself the same question this morning. Yesterday (and several days previously) there was just one small hole with yellowjackets swarming around it, and today there's a larger hole nearby, about 10" in diameter, containing and surrounded by broken layers of nest. At my house, I kind of suspect the large groundhog-looking rodent that lives under the shed, or possibly a stray cat. Seems odd that a cat would go digging for wasps, though.
